Would describe my entry into the ‘how many books do you want to read this year’ challenge on Goodreads. Lately i’ve been voluntarily confined to my room reading, that’s right, READING. Troglodyte style.
It all started with this e reader device. And then it all became too much. This is the story of one man’s journey from relatively equally distributed levels of slight madness to raging incomprehensible brain melting states of insanity. Or maybe i exaggerate. My grey matter seems pretty solid. There’s no slushing noise when i shake my head. And its not like it feels light or anything, so there must still be something in there.
Finally i decided that this was too much. Down goes my reading challenge. This thing is taking away my peace of mind. Thats the thing with challenges you set for yourself, they have a tendency of turning into obsessions, which can sometimes take away the whole point of doing things really. So I trimmed my number in half.
The Mountain Biking Challenge
Speaking of challenges and obsession. Everyone’s favorite group of backpackers, after a brief rest following the overly hectic fun that was Mannar, is planning a tentative bike ride down from Badulla to Galle. Yes that’s right its downhill. Well mostly. The notable exception being the stretch up the hill of Haputale (is that what they call it? if not, they should) which is so fabled that one of the first poems Sri Lankan schoolchildren learn concern the travails of a bullock cart caravan-or more specifically a bull- confronted with that grueling climb. But no matter, if legs freeze up on a vertical incline, there are always friendly lorries to help you up the slope.
Sinhalayatravels will be putting up a notice on the site soon. Dates etc not fixed yet, and all are welcome to join!
