Is Eminem back? Again?

Eminem’s got a new album out. It is called Recovery. The previous album was called Relapse, much anticipated, but ultimately a little bit of a bummer to me. It had the crass badassery of his debut album with nowhere near the lyrical brilliance and charm. Tracks like Guilty Conscience that had me hooked at 13 were notably absent.

‘Relapse’ refers to a drug habit he had developed during his self imposed exile from mainstream music. And Recovery refers to his decision to get clean, It WAS his decision apparently

It was my decision to get clean, I did it for me
Admittedly I probably did it subliminally for you
So I could come back a brand new me, you helped see me through
And don’t even realise what you did, believe me you
I been through the ringer, but they can do little to the middle finger

Who this ‘you’ he is talking to is, i suppose, me; his fan. Or his other fans. Seeing as i never bought anything of his that he got paid for. Unless Promedia paid Interscope royalties. But i wonder what the guy wants now. What’s driving home? He came, he saw and pretty much conquered the scene before gracefully bowing out years ago. Now he’s back and what does he want?  The man has made it as he used to define ‘making it’ already. Now he sounds a bit more spiritual. No more talking about showing up Will Smith at the Grammys and repeatedly abusing his mother and/or killing his wife/Britney Spears/Carson Daly/Christina Aguilera/Vanilla Ice/Himal Kotalawala. But maybe it is too early to judge, i haven’t listened to the album yet. But the fires of his first releases seems somewhat stoked. There’s no Eminem like an Eminem with something to prove.

Its gone straight to number one on the Billboards. But it is true that they let any old thing get up there these days. The test will be when i (illegally) download his whole album and have a listen. Then maybe i’ll have better insight. I still have the songs from relapse somewhere. Barely listened to em more than twice or so.

‘Mosh’ was a song released right before the re-election of George Bush. Calling for people to vote against him. It is a pretty powerful demonstration of the right to freedom of speech and his lyrical brilliance shines though like a filament though a bulb. Admittedly the video itself has a lot to do with the overall effect; taking into context all the prevalent internal social issues of American society. It ends with

…To disarm this Weapon of Mass Destruction
That we call our President, for the present

I like him cause he’s blunt and raw. And he don’t take no shit

Yeah I think if the first couple songs that have been released are anything to go by, the album should be good. I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet either, but looking forward it once i ‘acquire’ it.

  2. Recovery is amazing! It’s more amture than his previous attempts and his lyrical brilliance shines brighter this time!

I still haven’t got a chance to listen to it. I’m not a fan of rap, but Eminem’s lyrics, man! BRILLIANT!

get it. its worth the listen 🙂

  5. Yeah, I actually used to listening to Eminem even though I couldn’t stand Rap/HipHop… the reason for which was entirely the lyrics. Eminem is a lyrical genius.

Though I haven’t listened to any of his albums since Encore… I guess the new album is worth checking out.

it is. pretty good. though i wonder how many ghostwriters he employed, if any. some of the lyrics seem slightly you know, not him. Or maybe i’m imagining it

i LIKE love the way you lie. specially because it talks about domestic abuse. awesome. very grown up for him. 🙂

    • Whacko said:

yeah. but the next moment he’d be killing his wife 😀 but the new album is lower on the violence quotient. Interesting vid for that as well

Eminem is not halal and neither is music and Muslims should not be listening to his productions especially in a holy month like this.
